L'Ougandaise Peruth Chemutai a remporté le titre olympique du 3.000 m steeple mercredi à Tokyo en 9 min 01 sec 45. Le Kényan Emmanuel Korir est devenu champion olympique du 800 m en 1 min 45 sec 06 en devançant son compatriote Ferguson Rotich (1:45.23).
